Busy Michigan Families Deserve Family Photos

Family Photos Shouldn't Feel Like Another Thing on Your To-Do List

You already have enough to remember.

Who needs to be where.

What everyone is eating.

Whether anyone has clean socks.

The appointment you almost forgot about.

The permission slip sitting on the counter.

The snack someone is absolutely going to ask for five minutes after you leave.

And now there's a family photo session on the calendar.

Suddenly, something you were excited about starts feeling like one more thing you have to pull off.

You want the beautiful family photographs.

You want the little hands, the crooked smiles, the way your kids look at you right now.

But you don't necessarily want everything that seems to come before those photographs.

The outfit planning.

The packing.

The timing.

The remembering.

The inevitable “Where are their shoes?” five minutes before you need to leave.

And most of all?

You don't want to spend the entire day getting everyone ready only to arrive at your session already stressed.

You want to enjoy the photographs—not spend the whole day preparing for them.

That's the part I don't think we talk about enough.

When you're a mom, it's very easy to turn something meaningful into another project.

You want everyone to look good.

You want everyone to behave.

You want the session to go smoothly.

So you start trying to control every little variable.

But your kids are still going to be kids.

Someone might get dirty.

Someone might be grumpy.

Someone might refuse to smile.

Someone might decide that running in the opposite direction is suddenly their life's purpose.

And honestly?

That's not what needs fixing.

The goal isn't to create a perfectly executed family photo session.

The goal is to get you there feeling prepared enough that you can let go.

Let your kids be silly.

Let them move.

Let them be shy.

Let them laugh.

Let your photographer worry about finding the photograph.

Because the thing you're really buying isn't a checklist.

You're buying peace of mind.

You're buying that feeling of:

Okay. I remembered everything.

We're ready.

I don't have to think about this anymore.

And that little bit of mental space means you can actually be present when the camera comes out.

That's why I created Before the Flash.

It's a simple family photo prep guide built from the things I've learned after three years of photographing families.

Not a giant manual.

Not a list of 47 things you need to buy.

Not another overwhelming thing to read.

Just the practical things that are easy to forget, the things families tend to overthink, and the little details that can make showing up to your session feel so much easier.

You don't need more to-do's.

You need someone to take a few of them off your plate.

Before the Flash is $9.

A small investment for a little more peace of mind on a day that's supposed to be about remembering your family.

Because someday, you're going to look at these photographs and you're not going to remember whether your toddler's hair was perfect.

You're going to remember that little face.

The way they held your hand.

The way they laughed.

How small they were.

And I'd much rather you spend your energy being in those moments than worrying about whether you remembered everything to get there.

Let me handle the prep list.

You handle the memories. 🤍
